DUP MPs Gavin Robinson and Nigel Dodds today pushed for a new City Deal for Belfast. Drawing on a successful launch by the Belfast City Council in Westminster in November 2016, Gavin and Nigel met with Communities and Local Government Secretary of State, Sajid Javid MP.
Commenting afterwards Gavin Robinson said,
“We were delighted the Secretary of State, Sajid Javid was so receptive of a City Deal for Belfast. He recognises both the opportunities and can bring and the huge rewards on offer for Belfast and the wider region. Belfast City Council have been proactively seeking to build the reputation, capability and attractiveness of our City. We will continue to support the campaign and see today’s meeting as another important step forward for Belfast.”
The DUP’s leader at Westminster, Nigel Dodds added,
“I warmly welcome Sajid Javid’s commitment to ensure Belfast is rightly afforded an opportunity to benefit from a regional City Deal. This is Belfast’s next big opportunity and what we need to accelerate growth and encourage prosperity in Belfast and the surrounding areas. We want Belfast to takes its place as a modern, international city that can successfully compete internationally. We look forward to working with Belfast City Council after the election to deliver this game-changing initiative.”
