Emma was co-opted to the Northern Ireland Assembly in September 2015 to represent South Belfast. She replaced Jimmy Spratt who retired on health grounds and was appointed as a Junior Minister in the First Minister’s Office.
Prior to being an MLA Emma worked as a Special Advisor in the Office of the First Minister and is one of the party spokespersons on victims issues.
Emma studied at Queen’s University Belfast and worked as a barrister after leaving university.
Emma was elected to Parliament representing the constituency of South Belfast at the 2017 General Election.
