Parentkind was launched today at Parliament Buildings Stormont. Parentkind is the new name for the Parent Teachers’ Association. Speaking after the launch today Strangford MLA and DUP Education Spokesman Peter Weir said,
"I welcome the local launch this morning of Parentkind. This is a UK wide organisation known previously as PTA UK, and has long had a Northern Ireland section, effectively acting as the the voice of PTAs across Northern Ireland. The launch today will not simply enable the organisation to give local support for Parent Teacher Associations but also to focus on the key role played by parents in our education system.
The work of PTAs locally for more than half a century has played a critical role in local school communities, and it is vital that this continues. Schools with vibrant educational communities particularly focused on active involvement of parents, not just in fundraising but also a supportive educational role, tend to be those schools that are most thriving and successful. It is important that there is a synthesis between parents and teachers, and between a home and school environment. Parentkind will play an important role in helping to develop those productive partnerships and I congratulate them on their successful launch."
