“Those who attack vulnerable people should go to jail for a long time”

26 April 2016

East Belfast DUP Assembly candidate Robin Newton, a member of the Policing Board, has described the robbing of a 90 year old local resident as a sick and disgraceful incident that must be condemned in the strongest possible terms.

Speaker of the Northern Ireland Assembly.

Robin Newton said,

"It is difficult for anyone with a shred of decency to understand how a vulnerable elderly lady can be violently attacked and have her handbag stolen. Undoubtably the attack will have a traumatic effect on this lady and will also impact on her immediate family. I trust she will make a full recovery.

Those who attack elderly and vulnerable people should go to jail for a long time. They are sick bullies who prey on vulnerable members of our community. There should be no tolerance.

This thief is a danger to other older people and the PSNI need the support of the public to help take him off the streets.

Anyone who has even the smallest shred of information or a suspicion should make use of the police 101 number.
