“Gerry Adams has been resurrected and wheeled out of retirement after his Sinn Fein successor has now been battered and bruised at elections in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

The Irish Presidential election was the first disaster with the SF vote dropping from 13% in 2011 to 6% in 2018 and losing 150k votes.

At the 2019 Northern Ireland European elections their candidate went from being elected first in 2014 to being elected last and losing over 30k votes. But the Republic’s recent elections brought even worse where they lost 50% of their Councillors and 50% of their MEPs.

Unionists shouldn’t be complacent about promoting the Union and making Northern Ireland a home for everyone but equally they shouldn’t be spooked by a Gerry Adams united Ireland blog post. His comments are more to do with saving face after a bad SF electoral cycle than actually delivering a united Ireland.

People want us to make Northern Ireland work by restoring a local government which will fix our roads, schools and hospitals.  They do not want a divisive border poll.

Next time Gerry Adams is writing a blog, he should use it to encourage the current Sinn Fein leadership to lift their boycott from the Executive and get back to focusing on the issues which matter to everyone.”
