East Belfast MP Gavin Robinson has welcomed the announcement that the Airbus deal with Bombardier to acquire a majority stake in the C Series aircraft is to take effect on 1st July. The agreement was originally announced in October 2017.
The two companies announced this morning that all regulatory approvals have been obtained for the closing of the transaction.
The DUP MP said, “This announcement represents a conclusion to the deal that was very warmly welcomed when it was announced last year. Whilst this joint venture was not taken forward specifically because of the dispute with Boeing it is symbolic of the bright future that lies ahead for the C-Series aircraft.
The Belfast plant and the local workforce are an integral part of the C-Series production and the programme continues to ramp up, with twice as many plans planned to be delivered this year as in 2017.
Within the market segment filled by the C Series there are an estimated 6,000 aircraft required over the next 20 years. I have no doubt that this joint venture can ensure that this long-term potential is maximised.”
