A cross-party group of MPs will meet the Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt later today to discuss compensation for victims of Libya sponsored terrorism. The meeting follows last week’s meeting of the Northern Ireland Affairs Committee where the issue was raised by the DUP.
Spokesman on Culture Media & Sport, Communities & Local Government and Energy & Climate Change.
The group will include North Antrim MP Ian Paisley and speaking before the meeting he said,
“There is a continuing injustice which needs to be addressed for those who suffered at the hands of the IRA using Libyan weapons.
We were previously told that the issue of compensation was a priority for government. We will be seeking an update from the Foreign Secretary about where this issue now stands within government.
The Northern Ireland Affairs Committee has previously made clear its support for compensation for victims. That report provides a baseline for the government to work on and ensure that victims finally receive the compensation they deserve.”
