Foyle MLA Gary Middleton has condemned those responsible for attacks on the police in the Galliagh area of Londonderry last night.
Mr Middleton, who is a member of the Northern Ireland Policing Board raised the issue today, “These were disgraceful attacks on police officers serving our community. There can be no place for those who throw petrol bombs and other missiles officers dealing with a security alert.
All too recently we witnessed the tragic results of disorder on the streets of Londonderry and such activities must be condemned by everyone without reservation. It is particularly worrying that again it has been young people involved in this trouble, with the fear that their activities are being directed by older figures. I welcome the action taken by the police and that arrests have been made.”
