“The public in Northern Ireland are suffering because of Sinn Fein’s boycott policy. It is appalling one party’s decision to prioritise a narrow agenda has had an impact upon everyone living here. This limited measure is, in no way, a substitute for democratically elected representatives making decisions in the best interests of the people of Northern Ireland.

There are a number of outstanding issues which we shall seek clarity on during the passage of this legislation through Parliament.

The bill returns civil servants to the position they were in before the Buick judgement and does not introduce any democratic accountability into the decision-making process. It has been encouraging to see some within the Northern Ireland Civil Service who recognise the need to progress decisions that otherwise would have lain dormant. It cannot be piecemeal however and there is a need for action right across the civil service. Northern Ireland deserves better.”
