DUP MLA William Irwin has said that Mairtin O’Muilleor’s response to questions today relating to his sharing of an offensive video mocking the victims of the Kingsmill massacre are no different to those given by Barry McElduff.
Deputy Chair of the Infrastructure Committee
He has questioned therefore why the South Belfast MLA has not followed the same course of action as his party colleague and resigned because of the offence caused.
The Newry & Armagh MLA said, “This act involved a grotesque lack of respect for victims.
After a few weeks of hiding from media, Mairtin O’Muilleoir appears to think that people will have forgotten about the offence caused by he and Barry McElduff’s actions.
It is notable that his justification for sharing the video is no different than that of Barry McElduff for posting the stunt in the first place. Given there is no difference even after all this time between the words of Mairtin O’Muilleor and Barry McElduff we are left to ask why there is a difference between the actions of these two men.
Sinn Fein failed to take any serious action against either of them, but it was right that Barry McElduff resigned. His disrespect for victims and mockery was not fitting for anyone in public office. The question remains as to why Mairtin O’Muilleor thinks he can behave differently.”
