07 February 2018

DUP Deputy Leader Nigel Dodds has highlighted the hypocrisy of Sinn Fein during Northern Ireland Questions in Parliament today.

He raised the recent comments by West Belfast MLA Alex Maskey where he described Northern Ireland as a “putrid little statelet”.

Commenting Mr Dodds said, “Alex Maskey not only was deliberately offensive to unionists but sought to justify the murder of innocent people as somehow having brought about the provision of rights in Northern Ireland.

It is disgraceful, ironic and hypocritical for Sinn Fein to preach rights and equality whilst justifying murder.

If we are to move forward in Northern Ireland then such attitudes must change. If respect is to mean anything then Sinn Fein must learn to respect the unionist community in Northern Ireland and those of us who value the Union.

To date there has been silence from Mary Lou McDonald on how she views members of her party who go out of their way to insult her “unionist brothers and sisters.”
