DUP Deputy Leader Nigel Dodds has said that if Sinn Fein’s preconditions are not lifted then decisions for Northern Ireland must be taken at Westminster in consultation with locally elected representatives at Stormont.
DUP Deputy Leader, Leader of the DUP Parliamentary Party, Spokesman on Reform and Constitutional issues and Foreign Affairs
Speaking from Westminster after the Secretary of State’s statement to Parliament Mr Dodds said, “The public should recall that less than twelve months ago there was an agreed Programme for Government between the DUP and Sinn Fein. They might also consider that none of the issues being raised as critical preconditions now were raised by Sinn Fein in December when they were pulling down devolution.
The drift in Northern Ireland cannot continue and the Secretary of State is right to come before Parliament and set a budget. Good governance in Northern Ireland must continue and we will work with him to ensure that happens.
The wider task is to see Sinn Fein’s new preconditions lifted and get on with governing Northern Ireland from Stormont. If that will not happen then decisions must be taken at Westminster in consultation with local politicians at Stormont.”
