Chair of the Assembly’s Infrastructure Committee William Humphrey has welcomed the award of up to £4million funding to develop the York Street Interchange Scheme to a construction ready stage.
Chair of the Infrastructure Committee
The DUP MLA said, “The York Street Interchange is one of the key transport infrastructure projects not just for Belfast, but for all of Northern Ireland. It would however, be a particular boost to Belfast’s citizens, commuters, business and tourism.
It was very disappointing that such uncertainty was raised around this project a number of months ago, but it is important that it is progressed as quickly as possible. This funding will allow the project to be ‘shovel ready’ whenever the necessary funding is in place.
Because no budget proposals were brought forward by the Finance Minister there is uncertainty around funding right across all public services. However, the Chancellor’s Autumn Statement meant an additional £250million of capital funding for Northern Ireland and there is an obvious rationale for the York Street project to be prioritised.”
