DUP Leader Arlene Foster MLA has spent the last day of the local government election campaign canvassing with candidates through counties Antrim, Down, Tyrone and Fermanagh.
In an eve of poll message Mrs. Foster said,
“Every vote will count. There are parties seeking to take control of local councils but they have the wrong vision for Northern Ireland. No one can afford to stay at home.
My message has been simple:
- If you want high quality services at the lowest rates then vote DUP.
- If you want to support the Union and stand against a divisive border poll then vote DUP.
- If you want the Northern Ireland Assembly restored without preconditions then vote DUP.
- If you want the EU referendum respected and implemented then vote DUP.
Unionism united behind the DUP at the last election and we were able to deliver £1b extra for roads, schools, hospitals and rural broadband.
Whilst they have attacked the DUP and complained from the side-lines, no other party has delivered a single extra penny for public services.
The DUP could have achieved so much more if we had a working Assembly. We share the frustrations. We want to get the Assembly working immediately but Sinn Fein has blocked this and held Northern Ireland to ransom.
A low unionist turnout will serve to strengthen the demand for a border poll. Every vote will make the difference.
Unionism can’t afford to be divided. The DUP is the only party strong enough to unite around.”
