Speaking ahead of a meeting with the Chief Constable to take place tomorrow (Tuesday), DUP Policing Board member Mervyn Storey said,
“Over the weekend we witnessed there are still those in our society who would attempt to drag us back towards violence and terror. There has been a very clear and welcome message of condemnation from across the community, but an efficient and effective policing response is also required to ensure there is a strategy to bring those responsible to justice.
Whilst they may be copying the failed tactics of those who engaged in such activities previously their attempts to gain relevance clearly pose a danger to the public.”
Foyle MLA Gary Middleton added, “Following the weekend car bomb there have been two separate security alerts in the Creggan area. The only achievement of those responsible is to disrupt the lives of people living in the area. It is vital that alongside the welcome condemnation there is support and information forthcoming from the community.
The terrorists responsible do not exist in a vacuum. There undoubtedly will be people with information that could help identify them and ensure they are brought to justice.”
