DUP Deputy Leader Nigel Dodds has commended the spina bifida and hydrocephalus Charity, Shine as well as SBH Scotland for their campaign to make the inclusion of Folic Acid mandatory in flour.

During Prime Minister’s Questions in the House of Commons, Mr Dodds urged the Prime Minister to also support the campaign.
Mr Dodds said,
“Campaigns relating to spina bifida are very close to my heart as our son was born with the condition.
Scientists, public health campaigners and clinicians are largely united in the view that mothers-to-be taking folic acid in advance of conception and up to 12 weeks when pregnant can massively reduce the chances of children having spina bifida.
The campaign to have the mandatory inclusion of folic acid in flour, is sensible and such a step could be transformative in reducing pregnancies with neuro tube defects in the future. I want to see the United Kingdom brought into line with the many other countries around the world who already have taken this very practical step.
I welcome the Prime Minister’s positive comments about Charities and her commitment to continue to look it the issue.”
