He said, “This is welcome news for our maritime industry and Harland and Wolff. It will put Belfast in a strong position going forward for future drydock and refit contracts, competing against other giants in the industry.

Our shipyards boast of skilled workers with a historic affinity in the shipbuilding industry. Harland and Wolff is a globally recognised brand which will be boosted by this fresh investment. The scale of this project cannot be underestimated as it will reinvigorate our dockland area and well experienced industry here. Furthermore it is believed to be the first major outfit of a cruise liner within a dry dock in the UK. For jobs and our local economy this is good news.

We look forward to welcoming cruise ship Azamara Pursuit to Belfast in April and to the maiden voyage in August.”
