Reacting to the BIIGC meeting today, DUP Deputy Leader Nigel Dodds MP said,
DUP Deputy Leader, Leader of the DUP Parliamentary Party, Spokesman on Reform and Constitutional issues and Foreign Affairs
“This forum can discuss east-west issues but the only options for decision making on policies affecting our roads, schools and hospitals is either Westminster or Stormont.
The Conference meeting today is not a decision making body and has no executive functions.
We stand ready to nominate Ministers today in the Northern Ireland Assembly. Only one party is holding back devolution and that is Sinn Fein.
Having the institutions restored with a time-limited talks process in parallel would be the best route forward. Whilst Sinn Fein rejects this approach, they are mistaken and closing their eyes to the will of the people.
In the negotiations established on Tuesday, we will not be found wanting. We will work for a fair and balanced deal.
There must be a realisation that Northern Ireland has been held to ransom for long enough. Mandates must be respected and good government restored.”
