DUP North Belfast candidate, Paula Bradley, has expressed disappointment that a decision has been taken not to extend physiotherapy self-referral despite successful local trials.
She said, “At a time when GPs are under extreme pressures we must be considering all options to relieve the burdens and ensure a high quality of service is maintained for patients. I am extremely disappointed to learn that of Michelle O’Neill has decided not to extend what has been a successful measure.
The figures from the pilot show that the South Eastern Trust saved a minimum of 615.92 GP hours and an estimated cost saving £88,693. These patients would otherwise have attended their GP prior to Physiotherapy intervention.
Once again this demonstrates the need for strong political direction, with a will to drive forward the reforms in Health. This process of change began under a DUP Health Minister, the change health professionals wanted to see. Under Michelle O’Neill’s supposed leadership, change has stagnated and patients are suffering because of it.”
